This article’s title is, at least, correct–Libel on the Internet is indeed an international problem. Although this piece was written awhile back, it’s statements hold true. Online libel can only be solved by Internet reputation management.

Social networking sites have continually been challenging the brand reputation management industry. Facebook, especially, has been a constant source of new problems for that industry. With the introduction of their newest tagging status system, facebook has created a monster that may not be controllable by brand reputation management professionals. It will be interesting to see how they cope with this newest development.

Social media online is very difficult to manage, but many businesses have found this to be a potent commercial power, too. Business now use sites like facebook or twitter to keep in contact with customers and advertise to niche groups. However, such prolific use of social media leads to possible negative consequences, such as web libel.
